Why Saskatchewan is the best place to live with everything going on in the world today.

I recently attended the SRA “State of Real-estate” conference and learnt a lot about Saskatchewan’s market. Scott Moe Gave a presentation along with many other high up panelists in Real Estate. I will highlight what I thought were some key points to the presentation.

1)Saskatchewan is the most affordable province to live in, during the last two years prices have increased 15% while in Vancouver and Toronto markets have gone up almost 50%. Sask folks typically spend 30-40% of their wages on living expenses where as people in Vancouver spend 90% or even more of living expenses. We still have some of the lowest rent in Canada as well.2) Saskatchewan has a large percentage of Canadas farmland and we have the largest average size farm of any province. We have built our pulse crop sector to be the largest in the world, we are recognized for our quality crops
In 2021, Saskatchewan exported approximately (based on dollar value):
56 per cent of the world's canary seed exports;
51 per cent of the world's lentil exports;
36 per cent of the world's dry pea exports;
35 per cent of the world's durum exports;
27 per cent of the world's canola meal exports;
25 per cent of the world's canola oil exports;
23 per cent of the world's oat exports;
19 per cent of the world's canola seed exports;
19 per cent of the world's mustard seed exports;
16 per cent of the world's flaxseed exports;
Seven per cent of the world's chickpea exports;
Five per cent of the world's barley exports; and
Four per cent of the world's non-durum wheat exports; and
Three per cent of the world's rye exports.
4) We have a wide variety of mineral resources including oil, potash and uranium. Potash is mainly used for fertilizer and sask is one of the worlds largest producers of it. The CEO of Nutrien made an appearance at the conference and stated that they will be ramping up annual potash production capability to 18 million tonnes by 2025, that is a 40% increase compared to 2020. This will lead to approximately 350 new jobs throughout the provinces.
5) Canada has about 20% of the planets freshwater resources, Saskatchewan having over 100 000 lakes and rivers with some of the best freshwater fishing in the world. We are ranked #6 with more fresh water than alberta and BC combined.

As sales Activity continue’s to trend downward in September - a 7% decline from last year, the market has slowly been shifting.

With this trend buyers have more time to make decisions and over bid listings are not as common. Saskatchewan is typically has a pretty steady housing market, and we are for the most part the last province to adjust to these markets.

For example The Real Estate Board Of Greater Vancouver released data that shows a decline of 46% compared to last year. Sask would never have variance like that but the purpose of this is to show you that yes interests rates have risen but houses prices are also starting to slowly fall.
